This past weekend was a special one for the Metropolitan Montreal Basketball Referees Association (MMBRA). The annual Sun Youth Holiday Classic, a tradition and charity event sponsored by MMBRA, brought together basketball fans, players, and referees for an exciting weekend.
Refereeing for a Great Cause
The Sun Youth Holiday Classic isn't just another basketball tournament. It showcases top D1 basketball talent from Quebec, Ontario, and the United States, while giving back to the community. Every year, up-and-coming MMBRA referees volunteer their time to officiate games using 3-person mechanics. Their hard work shows how much they care about both basketball and their community.
Making History with All-Woman Crews
This year's event stood out because it included MMBRA's first-ever all-woman officiating crews. Not just once, but twice during the tournament, these talented women took the court, showing their skills and making history.
A Time to Celebrate
The weekend wasn't just about basketball. On Saturday night, MMBRA held its first-ever Christmas party. It was a chance for referees to relax, celebrate the season, and look back on a year of achievements. The party was full of fun, laughter, and holiday spirit - a great way to end such an important weekend.
