| Campers & Supervisors of 2024 |
This past weekend, the Provincial Officiating Committee (CPA) held its elite camp, a training camp for basketball officials of higher levels. The camp, hosted at Saint-Laurent high school and Parc Ex, drew participants from across the country, all eager to advance their officiating careers.
The elite camp spanned three full days, from Friday to Sunday. Each day was packed with a mix of classroom sessions, on-court training, and real-game officiating using the Brookwood Elite tournament. Participants received supervision from some of the most respected officials in the industry, including some current NBA and FIBA officials.
15 officials represented MMBRA at the camp, which included 8 supervisors and 7 campers.
MMBRA Supervisors: Max Audette, François Brouillette, Varouj Gurunlian, Mike Homsy, Pierre Marion, Yannick Payette, Greg Southward, and Jayson Stiell. Honorable mention goes to Nate Saunders, an ex-MMBRA referee who was also supervising at the camp.
MMBRA Officials: Shawn Alleyne, Amy Bakos, Wandy Beauzile, Cory Connors, Cham Fung Lau, Eric Lam, and Frederique Lorrain.
As the camp came to a close, there was a sense of camaraderie and accomplishment among the participants. Many expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to learn from the best and to challenge themselves in such an environment. The CPA's elite camp has once again proven to be an essential stepping stone for those looking to make their mark in the world of basketball officiating, especially in Quebec. All the officials from the camp will return home with the knowledge, experience, and passion, to uphold the highest standards of officiating.
