The Legacy of Nicholas Sidorenko

Nicholas Sidorenko was a passionate basketball fan and a dedicated member of the MMBRA community. Despite significant health challenges throughout his life, Nick approached each day with courage, determination and an enthusiasm for the many things he loved.

Nick's connection to basketball was one of the many passions that defined his life. He also enjoyed golf, travel, video games, cars, music, fashion and food, while remaining deeply connected to his family, friends and community.

Nick passed away on October 10, 2010, at the age of 26, after living for six years with a heart transplant. Throughout his health challenges, he remained an active advocate for organ donation and participated in both the Canadian and World Transplant Games.

His determination to overcome adversity and his will to live remain an inspiration to the MMBRA community. The Nicholas Sidorenko Award carries that spirit forward by recognizing the next generation of MMBRA officials and celebrating those who demonstrate the dedication, character and promise that Nick represented.

Nick's legacy also continues through the Nicholas Sidorenko Memorial Scholarship at John Abbott College, established in his memory. The scholarship supports a full-time student involved in extracurricular activities who has faced significant health challenges.

Nick was truly the best in all of us, and he will never be forgotten.
