WiBOC Hosts Women’s Development Clinic in Montreal

On October 16 and 17, the Women in Basketball Officiating Collective (WiBOC) brought together women basketball officials from across Quebec for a two-day development clinic in Montreal. Held in partnership with the 25th edition of the Code de l’Aigle at Collège Jean-Eudes, the event provided an opportunity for women officials to develop their skills, learn from experienced supervisors, and connect with others who share their passion for basketball officiating.
Organized by Maripier Malo, WiBOC’s Quebec representative and a COBB official, the clinic welcomed 24 women officials from across the province, supported by nine women supervisors. The event highlighted the importance of creating opportunities for women in officiating to learn, build confidence, and continue progressing in their careers.
Building Opportunities for Women in Officiating
WiBOC is a newly established committee under the Canadian Basketball Officials Commission (CBOC), created with the mission of uniting women officials across Canada through equity, inclusion, and empowerment. Its goal is to foster an environment where women officials can grow, take on leadership roles, and feel a strong sense of belonging within the officiating community.
The Montreal clinic represented an opportunity to put that mission into action. By bringing together officials at different stages of their careers, the event created space for shared learning, professional development, and meaningful connections across the province.
With nine supervisors supporting the 24 participating officials, the clinic also emphasized the value of mentorship and guidance in officials’ development. Opportunities to learn alongside experienced colleagues can help officials strengthen their understanding of the game, build confidence on the court, and continue working toward their individual goals.
In Quebec, the initiative is led by Maripier Malo, who took responsibility for organizing the clinic. Her involvement helped bring the WiBOC mission to the local basketball community and create an opportunity for women officials from across the province to come together.

A Partnership with the 25th Code de l’Aigle
The clinic took place alongside the 25th edition of the Code de l’Aigle, an annual tradition of the basketball program at Collège Jean-Eudes in Montreal.
The Code de l’Aigle brings together athletes, coaches, and alumni to celebrate the school’s basketball program and its community. The 25th edition provided a fitting setting for the WiBOC initiative, connecting the development of women officials with an established basketball tradition.
Malo, who also serves as director of the basketball program at Collège Jean-Eudes, played a central role in bringing the two initiatives together. The partnership offered an opportunity to support women’s development in officiating while being part of a broader celebration of basketball.
MMBRA Represented by Seven Officials and Two Supervisors
The Metropolitan Montreal Basketball Referee Association (MMBRA) was well represented throughout the weekend, with seven officials and two supervisors participating in the clinic.
The MMBRA officials in attendance were:
Lilianne Benoit
Kailey Tamara Bundalian
Chaymae Dahbi
Bridget Mbaya
Anita Quintana
Sheradyne Prosper
Chanez Saheb
MMBRA was also represented by supervisors Amy Bakos and Shelley Quintos, who joined the nine supervisors supporting the clinic.
Their participation reflected the association’s involvement in opportunities that bring officials together, encourage continued learning, and support the development of women within basketball officiating.
Continuing to Grow the Officiating Community
The WiBOC Women’s Development Clinic was an opportunity to bring women officials together around a shared commitment to learning, growth, and the game of basketball. With 24 officials and nine supervisors in attendance, the event created a space for development and connection while advancing WiBOC’s mission within Quebec.
As women continue to pursue opportunities at every level of basketball officiating, initiatives like this clinic help strengthen the community around them. By creating opportunities to learn from one another, connect with experienced supervisors, and build relationships across the province, WiBOC is helping foster an environment where women officials can continue to develop and contribute to the game.
MMBRA congratulates Maripier Malo and everyone involved in organizing the clinic, as well as all the officials and supervisors who participated in the weekend. Their commitment to development and to supporting women in officiating is an important contribution to the continued growth of the basketball officiating community in Quebec and across Canada.
