On Saturday, November 30, 2025, Women’s College Division 1 basketball took center stage at Place Bell in Laval, marking one of the most exciting moments of the season. In a rare showcase during the NCAA Northern Classic Tournament weekend, Champlain College Saint-Lambert and Dawson College tipped off inside a 10,000-seat arena — making it the first and only D1 women’s game this season played in such a high-capacity venue.
With the NCAA men’s tournament drawing crowds throughout the weekend, the inclusion of this Québec women’s matchup provided a powerful spotlight on the talent, intensity, and competitiveness of the local college game.
The game was officiated by an accomplished crew:
Julie Frappier (Laval)
Amy Bakos
Chanez Saheb
Stepping onto the floor of Place Bell wasn’t just memorable for the players — it was a milestone for the officials as well. Working in a professional-caliber environment offered a unique opportunity to showcase high-quality officiating in front of a large venue audience.
Staging a D1 women’s game in a 10,000-seat arena is a major statement for the sport in Québec. It highlighted the growth of the women’s game, brought added visibility to local athletes, and created an unforgettable atmosphere for everyone involved.
For MMBRA, this event reflects our association’s ongoing commitment to developing officials and supporting basketball opportunities that elevate the sport at every level.
