The Metropolitan Montreal Basketball Referees Association (MMBRA) has officially wrapped up its second recruitment clinic of the season, building on the momentum from its September course and welcoming a new group of 25 rookie officials into the association.

The recruitment clinic took place over the weekend of January 24 and 25 and combined both classroom instruction and on-court learning. Throughout the weekend, rookies worked closely with MMBRA supervisors, gaining foundational knowledge of mechanics, positioning, game management, and officiating philosophy. The clinic provided a strong introduction to what is expected of officials at the MMBRA level and set the stage for the next step in their development.

Following the clinic, MMBRA hosted its Selection Tournament this past Sunday, February 1, at Dalbé-Viau High School. The tournament marked a key milestone for the rookies, giving them the opportunity to apply what they learned during the clinic in a live game environment.

The Selection Tournament featured supervised games in which all rookie officials took the floor and officiated competitive basketball games while being closely evaluated by MMBRA’s supervisor team. Supervisors in attendance included Robert Shaul, Anita Quintana, Winston Murray, and Al McInnis, who provided in-game guidance and post-game feedback to support the continued development of each official.

The tournament was hosted in collaboration with No Limits Showcases as part of the NLS Premier League. MMBRA would like to thank No Limits Showcases for their support and for providing quality game opportunities that allowed rookie officials to gain valuable real-game experience in a structured and supportive environment.

A photo album from the Selection Tournament is now available on the MMBRA website, capturing highlights from the day and showcasing our rookies in action as they took an important step in their officiating journey.

MMBRA is proud of the commitment shown by its newest officials and looks forward to supporting them as they continue to grow within the association. The association also extends its thanks to all supervisors, partners, and organizers who contributed to the success of both the recruitment clinic and the Selection Tournament.
