MMBRA is excited to announce the second recruitment clinic of the season, continuing our commitment to developing knowledgeable, confident, and well-prepared basketball officials. This clinic is designed for individuals who are new to officiating or who were unable to attend one of our earlier recruitment sessions and are interested in beginning their officiating journey with MMBRA.
Our goal is to share the knowledge and experience gained within our association while guiding participants through the fundamentals of basketball officiating. From your first whistle to your long-term growth as an official, MMBRA is committed to supporting you every step of the way.
Clinic Details
The upcoming recruitment clinic will take place over two days:
📅 Saturday, January 24th and Sunday, January 25th, 2026
🕘 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM
(Registration from 8:30 a.m. to 8:55 a.m. — the clinic begins promptly at 9:00 a.m.)
📍Dalbé-Viau High School
740 Rue Esther-Blondin, Lachine, QC H8S 1P1

Attendance on both days is mandatory to participate in the clinic.
What to Bring
Participants are asked to come prepared with:
A notebook and pen for note-taking
Appropriate gym clothing (shorts and t-shirt)
Clean running shoes (preferably all black)
A copy of the rule book, interpretations, and case book downloaded on a phone or laptop
All rule resources are free to download and can be accessed digitally here. A brand-new whistle will be provided to each participant.
Clinic Structure
The clinic will begin with a classroom session introducing the instructors, outlining the weekend’s schedule, sharing a brief history of MMBRA, and reviewing officiating rules and mechanics. Throughout the weekend, participants will rotate between classroom instruction and on-court gym sessions focusing on floor mechanics, positioning, and officiating signals.
Breaks will be scheduled throughout the day for lunch and snacks. Participants are encouraged to bring their own food.
NOCP Level 0 Certification
This recruitment clinic is structured around the National Officials Certification Program (NOCP) and serves as the NOCP Level 0 course. The NOCP framework ensures consistency in officiating standards across MMBRA and throughout Canada.
About NOCP: The NOCP consists of five levels, ranging from community-level officiating to the international FIBA level. Each level represents a progression in knowledge, skill, and experience, with specific training and evaluation requirements. This clinic is the first step on that pathway. Read more about NOCP certification here.
Next Steps: Selection Tournament
Completion of the recruitment clinic does not mark the end of the training process. All participants will be required to officiate at a mandatory selection tournament prior to official acceptance into MMBRA.
Selection Tournament Date: Sunday, February 1st, 2026
This tournament will consist of supervised games where participants will apply what they learned during the clinic in a live game environment. Additional details will be provided during the clinic. Officials who are successful at the tournament will receive their official MMBRA referee shirt. More details will be given at the clinic.
Registration Fee
The cost to participate in the recruitment clinic is $175. Payment details will be provided directly to registered participants.
Registration is available through MMBRA's website: Become a Referee.
