The month of December is set to kick off in a big way for the MMBRA community. Next weekend, from December 12 to 14, the 44th Annual Sun Youth Holiday Classic returns to Montreal—one of the longest-running and most respected youth basketball tournaments in the city.
This year’s edition will welcome high-level teams from across Canada and the United States, promising three full days of exciting basketball. Games will be played on Friday and Sunday at Collège Brébeuf, and on Saturday at École secondaire Saint-Laurent, with all games officiated using 3-person mechanics. The tournament provides a valuable opportunity for MMBRA officials to develop their skills, receive supervision, and referee competitive basketball in a high-energy environment. Spectators are encouraged to attend and support their fellow officials throughout the weekend.
Clinics and Development Opportunities
In addition to the tournament, the weekend includes key development activities for officials:
A NOCP Level 1 course will run on Saturday, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (registration on GamePlan)
A 3-person officiating clinic open to all MMBRA officials and anyone interested in learning the basics of 3-person mechanics will be held on Thursday, December 11, from 6:15 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. at École secondaire Saint-Laurent.Officials may accept or decline the clinic invitation through Arbiter.
Saturday Night: THE SOCIAL EVENT OF THE YEAR
After a full day of basketball, the MMBRA community will come together for what has quickly become a highlight of the season: The Social Event of the Year (#TSEOTY).
This year’s social event will take place on Saturday night, from 6:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m., at École secondaire Saint-Laurent. Expect an evening filled with good music, great vibes, festivities, drinks, and the chance to connect with officials from across the association. It’s the perfect moment to unwind, celebrate the midway point of the season, and build meaningful relationships within MMBRA.
