MMBRA Welcomes 24 New Recruits at 2025 Recruitment Clinic

This past weekend, on September 6 and 7, the Metropolitan Montreal Basketball Referees Association (MMBRA) hosted its annual Recruitment Clinic at École secondaire Dalbé-Viau in Lachine, welcoming the next generation of basketball officials to our ranks.

Over the course of two full days, 24 recruits took part in a comprehensive program designed to give them the tools and knowledge needed to succeed as referees. The clinic featured both classroom sessions and on-court training, covering everything from the fundamentals of the rulebook to proper positioning, whistle timing, and game management skills.

Leading the clinic was our experienced supervision team, made up of: Robert Shaul, Greg Southward, Paul Gallant, Al Mcinnis, Winston Murray & Anita Quintana. Their leadership and expertise ensured that every recruit received hands-on guidance and constructive feedback throughout the weekend.

What’s Next for Our Recruits

The completion of the clinic is just the first step in these new officials’ journeys. Over the coming weeks, recruits will begin their on-court training, where they will be supervised and mentored by experienced officials during live games.

Their next major milestone will be the selection tournament, where they will have the opportunity to put their skills to the test in a real game environment. This event plays a crucial role in evaluating each recruit’s readiness and assigning them to appropriate levels of competition for the season.
